Sr. Cost Analyst; Energy Infrastructure

MATRIX is seeking a Senior Cost Analyst
, to apply technical cost management skills to meet project team and client needs for monitoring, analyzing, and reporting project cost performance. This work will include interfacing directly with project management, client management, and site personnel to develop budget and cost metrics for the engineering, procurement, and construction scopes of work associated with electric utility infrastructure (Transmission & Distribution) projects.

DURATION: 6 months with possible extension(s)

Hybrid work arrangement: You will spend three days a week in the office and two days remotely (local to the Minneapolis area).

• Implement project controls tools and methodology
• Support the month‑end closing and phase gate processes, coordination, productions, management, reporting and analysis of cost information
• Support the establishment of project original and approved budgets
• Work with project stakeholders to establish cost baselines
• Develop project forecasts, utilizing estimates, schedules, purchase order open commitments, and inputs from project stakeholders. Review, explain basis for, and adjust project forecasts directly with Project Managers.
• Monitor and analyze actual project costs, calculate variances between actual and forecasted costs, and gather information to document variance explanations.
• Assemble supporting documentation to meet project team and client requests/needs
• Analyze data and build reports to support project monitoring and decision making
• Interface regularly with project management to support monitoring cost performance
• There is the potential for you to travel to client office for project coordination meetings
• Experience with accrual‑based project execution.

• Familiarity with the practical application of project controls
• 5 or more years of project controls experience
• Post‑secondary graduate
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to interact and multitask with project team members, clients, and vendors of varying position levels.
• Eager to learn new skills and develop knowledge to add a valuable impact to project team operation. Willing to engage with others to understand project team needs. Committed to deliver high quality, accurate deliverables with attention to detail.
• Working knowledge in MS Office tools, with emphasis on the advanced use of MS Excel and/or Power BI in creating detailed, interactive spreadsheets, workbooks, and databases.
• Working knowledge in SAP

• Related internship, co‑op, or work experience, which includes project controls, project planning, project scheduling, and earned value performance, preferably within the power industry.
• AACE CCT, or PMI Equivalent
• Working towards AACE CCP, CEP, PSP, PRMP, EVP, or PMI Equivalent
• In lieu of Professional Designation (i. or ii.) above, has completed equivalent training
• Or in lieu of i.), ii.) or iii.) above, has successfully passed designated proficiency testing
