Cultural Care Coordinator
Pay range: $67,651.00/yr – $99,722.00/yr
The Cultural Care Coordinator leads efforts to create, manage, and coordinate cultural education, services, programs, and activities for incarcerated American Indian individuals within Department of Corrections (DOC) facilities.
In this role, the coordinator reports to the Tribal Relations Director and collaborates closely to facilitate cultural training for DOC staff, establish and strengthen partnerships with Tribal Nations, community resources, and individuals to ensure appropriate cultural services are provided.
Minimum Qualifications
- Three (3) years of demonstrated experience in program development, implementation, and quality review/improvement in one or more of the following areas:
- Working with the American Indian community
- Experience providing cultural care within the boundaries of a Tribal Nation or recognized Urban Indian community
- Interacting/participating with Tribal Governments, Tribal Affairs or Tribal Community based position
- A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Indian Affairs, Corrections, Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, or closely related field may substitute for one (1) year of experience
- Ability to act in a manner that serves as an example of positive cultural values, attitudes, beliefs and actions.
- Ability to communicate effectively through public speaking.
- Ability to deal effectively with adversarial or resistive clients.
- Ability to respond decisively and calmly to high-risk crisis situations.
- Ability to work with a diverse client population.
- Knowledge and awareness of American Indian culture and history.
- Knowledge of American Indian historical and contemporary issues.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Indian Affairs, Corrections, Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, or closely related field.
- Experience working in a correctional, criminal justice, or law enforcement setting.
- Experience in Ojibwe and/or Dakota language.
- Established working relationships with the American Indian community.
