Surgical Technologist – West Bank (Fairview Health Services)

Immediate opening for a 0.9‑FTE Surgical Technologist (72 hours per two‑week pay period) at the University of Minnesota Medical Center – West Bank in Minneapolis, MN. Rotating D/E/N shifts, 8‑hour shifts, on‑call as needed, minimum 1 night per week and 1 weekend per month. Sign‑on bonus of $6,750 and relocation bonus up to $5,000.

Salary: $32.20–$44.13 per hour.

As a Surgical Technologist, you will assist in surgical procedures by preparing the operating room, arranging and passing instruments to surgeons, and ensuring a sterile environment under the guidance of a Registered Nurse. You will play a crucial role in supporting the surgical team and maintaining the safety and efficiency of the operating room.

• Supply appropriate instruments, sutures, and specialty items.
• Maintain aseptic technique during all sterile procedures.
• Ensure accurate identification and handling of specimens.
• Count all required sponges, sharps, and instruments.
• Assure availability and accurate functioning of supplies and equipment.
• Modify clinical interventions based on population served.
• Nurture a culture of improvement, efficiency, and innovative thinking.
• Anticipate surgeons’ needs.
• Act appropriately in emergency situations.

• Complete one of the following by hire date:
  • Military Surgical Assistant; OR
  • LPN (licensed in MN) Surgical Assistant; OR
  • Surgical Technologist training
• Basic Life Support (BLS) through Health Care Providers (or ability to obtain by hire date)

• Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technologist program
• AST certification or certification eligible at time of hire
• 1‑3 years surgical tech experience

• Knowledge of physical, psychosocial, and cognitive developmental needs of population served.
• Knowledge of age‑appropriate outcomes and interventions.

• Demonstrate ability to work under stress in a variety of situations.
• Ability to work well in a team environment.
