Essential Generic Job Functions- Collects blood and/or performs Point of Care (POC) testing as assigned.
- Cleans and re‑stocks POC supplies and prepares phlebotomy carts/trays.
- Assists coworkers with draws and POC testing.
- Draws venous or capillary blood from newborn through geriatric patients using proper aseptic techniques.
- Draws and delivers all blood work (stat, timed, routine) within established departmental time frames.
- Draws venous and capillary blood into proper tubes and culture vials according to testing purposes.
- Performs and processes all POC tests on patients ranging from newborn to geriatrics.
- Completes clerical functions associated with POC testing documents.
- Reports incidents/issues regarding patients or employees timely to group leader or supervisor.
- Reports supply needs and equipment defects in a timely fashion.
- Logs refrigerator temperatures daily and reports if out of range to group leader or supervisor.
- Travels and performs phlebotomy duties and POC testing at health fairs and PSA testing sites, delivering specimens to the laboratory.
- Identifies patient population needs and modifies care accordingly (age, culture, language, hearing, visual impairments, etc.). Communicates with patients, parents, or caregivers at their level.
- Adheres to the standards identified in the clinic's organizational competencies.
- Lift light to moderately heavy objects (1‑15 lb frequently, 16‑25 lb occasionally, 26‑40 lb seldom). Objects >41 lb require assistance.
- Must be able to sit or stand for long periods; requires significant eye and hand coordination.
- Must perform repetitive tasks with the dominant hand frequently and continuously.
- Position requires travel.
- Extensive use of phone and PC.
- Fine dexterity with hands, steadiness.
- Walking, balancing, bending/kneeling, pushing/pulling, reaching/twisting.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Medical training: medical assistant or paramedic training preferred.
- Phlebotomy certification preferred. Required in California, Nevada, and Washington.
