Position: Medical Physicist - Allina Health Cancer Institute

Responsibilities
  • Quality & Safety
    • Design, implement and ensure compliance of the quality control program for radiation producing equipment and radioactive materials in accordance with state and federal laws and accrediting bodies.
    • Implement and quality assure procedures for planning and delivery of radiotherapy, including technical specifications/tolerances, workflow, supervision and QC review of treatment plans and dose calculations.
    • Perform daily clinical tasks related to chart checks, plan checks, patient-specific quality assurance, or other procedures as needed.
    • Perform all weekly, monthly and annual Quality Assurance testing on all equipment.
    • Attend and participate in departmental or facility meetings such as CQI, huddles, and weekly new case conference.
  • Treatment & Planning
    • Perform physics planning and delivery of all radioactive brachytherapy source procedures in radiation oncology and outside departments.
    • Produce computer plans to satisfy physician prescription or written directive.
    • Produce treatment plans using the health system's available modes and techniques as appropriate.
  • Collaboration
    • Work with the physics team in a peer-to-peer model, with proficiency and coverage across aspects of practice.
    • Consult and collaborate with radiation oncology, dosimetry, radiation therapy, and department members on complex cases.
    • Collaborate with Radiation Safety Officer to achieve federal and state compliance for linear accelerators, x-ray devices and brachytherapy sources.
    • Partner with IS and vendors to troubleshoot and upgrade systems used in Radiation Oncology.
    • Provide leadership in technical, educational and radiation matters to the radiation oncology department.
  • Innovation
    • Determine technical specifications for new equipment and/or software, supervise installation, and measure performance to ensure accurate clinical implementation.
    • Develop and implement protocols or treatment procedures in collaboration with medical staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Medical Physics from a CAMPEP accredited program or Doctoral/Ph.D. level advanced degree.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in a clinical radiation oncology setting.
Licenses/Certifications
  • Must meet one of the following:
  • American Board of Radiology Certification in Therapeutic Medical Physics upon hire, and HDR Brachytherapy Authorized Medical Physicist credentialing within 12 months of hire.
  • American Board of Medical Physics in Medical Physics upon hire, and HDR Brachytherapy Authorized Medical Physicist credentialing within 12 months of hire.
Physical Demands
  • Light work with lifting up to 20 lbs occasionally and up to 10 lbs frequently.
  • Site equipment includes GE CT simulator, Varian Truebeam accelerators, Vision

    RT, HDR brachytherapy capabilities, and various planning and QA tools. Position may require coverage at both Abbott Northwestern Hospital and United Hospital.
Pay Range

Pay Range: $94.06 to $130.15 per hour. This reflects base hiring pay range; starting rate depends on factors including experience, education, and union agreement (if applicable). Shift, weekend and/or other differentials may apply.
