Position Summary

We're seeking a Staff Data Scientist to drive the evolution of SPS's advanced analytics capabilities and lead strategic data science initiatives across the organization. As a senior member of the Data Analytics team, you will guide the development of predictive models, establish data science practices, and collaborate with cross‑functional leaders to embed data‑driven decision‑making into SPS's core operations. This is a high‑impact role for a visionary data scientist who thrives in a fast‑paced environment and is passionate about shaping the future of analytics at SPS.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement scalable machine learning models for classification, regression, clustering, and recommendation systems.
  • Develop and optimize data pipelines for feature engineering, model training, and inference using modern cloud and big data technologies.
  • Evaluate and select appropriate algorithms and tools, balancing performance, interpretability, and scalability.
  • Conduct rigorous statistical analysis and hypothesis testing to support experimentation and business decisions.
  • Integrate models into production systems, working closely with data engineers to ensure reliability and performance.
  • Mentor and guide a team of data scientists and analysts, establishing a robust data science practice and a culture of technical excellence.
  • Present insights and recommendations to senior leadership, translating technical findings into strategic actions.
  • Translate business challenges into data science solutions, partnering with stakeholders across product, revenue, technology, finance and HR.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and trends in data science, AI, and analytics.

Required Qualifications
  • 6+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, or advanced analytics.
  • Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or Engineering.
  • Proven track record of leading data science projects from ideation to production.
  • Strong proficiency in Python, SQL, and modern ML frameworks (e.g., scikit‑learn, Tensor Flow, PyTorch).
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and big data tools (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks).
  • Experience with business intelligence tools (e.g., Power

    BI, Tableau, Qlik).
  • Deep understanding of statistical modeling, predictive analytics, and algorithm development.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor junior team members and lead cross‑functional initiatives.
  • Ability to present data insights in a variety of methods to meet needs of stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in a leadership role within a startup or high‑growth environment.
  • Experience presenting to executive leadership and driving strategic decisions.
  • Familiarity with MLOps practices and tools for model deployment and monitoring.
  • Prior experience managing others while also performing individual contribution work.
  • Ability to independently assess business value and align priority accordingly.
What We Offer

At SPS Commerce, we are committed to ensuring that each employee's compensation reflects their unique experiences, performance, and skills in their role. The salary range for this role considers several factors, including education, relevant skills, work history, certifications, location, and more.

The annual salary range for this role is: $113,700 - $175,000 (+ Bonus and Equity). The actual salary offered will be determined based on the factors listed above and may fall anywhere within the range.
