Position: Police Officer Full-Time

Be the difference! The Metro Transit Police Department is hiring FT Police Officers and Lateral FT Police Officers. Both are eligible for hiring bonuses.

2025 Salary Rates:
  • Start – $39.51 hourly / $82,181 annual
  • After year 1 – $42.68 hourly / $88,774 annual
  • After year 2 – $45.83 hourly / $95,326 annual
  • After year 3 – $48.98 hourly / $101,878 annual
  • After year 4 – $52.68 hourly / $109,574 annual

Metro Transit Police Department is one of the fastest growing agencies in the state due to the expansion of light rail and Rapid Transit Bus systems. As a Sworn Full-Time Metro Transit Police Officer, you will protect employees and passengers, and safeguard property and equipment of Metro Transit across all municipalities of our eight county Metro-wide system. You will patrol assigned areas in a squad car, on foot, or onboard public transit and perform visual inspections and recognize, respond, investigate, and enforce violations of laws and ordinances.

  • An associate degree in Law Enforcement from an accredited College or University AND must currently be MN Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) licensed or eligible to be POST licensed as a full-time peace officer in the State of Minnesota by the time of conditional offer.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
FT Officers Hiring Bonus
  • $1,000 after successful completion of the Academy
  • $1,000 after completion of FTO
  • $2,000 after successfully completing a probationary period.
Lateral Officer Eligibility
  • Must currently be employed full-time in a sworn position by a law enforcement agency.
  • Must have at least 18 months of continuous experience in a sworn position (must be immediately preceding employment with Metro Transit to be eligible for the hiring bonus).
  • An associate degree in Law Enforcement from an accredited College or University AND must currently be MN Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) licensed.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Lateral Officers Hiring Bonus
  • $4,000 upon successful completion of (6) six months of employment.
  • $4,000 upon successful completion of (12) twelve months of employment.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Law Enforcement from an accredited College or University
  • Conversational in a second language other than English

Selection Process
  • Minimum Qualification Review – Review by Human Resources to ensure minimum qualifications are met.
  • Structured Panel Interview – Scored interview by a panel of Metro Transit/Met Council staff.
  • Selection Interview – Interview including MTPD Command Staff (may be held after background is complete).
  • Background Check – Candidates must pass a thorough background investigation conducted by the Metro Transit Police Department.
  • Psychological Evaluation – After passing the background check, a conditional offer of employment may be extended. All candidates must be recommended for hire based on the psychological evaluation.
