Responsibilities
- Answers to the Director, Division Chief or any Senior Attorney, depending on assignment, and provides a variety of legal services (civil, traffic, administrative, criminal law related).
- Assists the Director of Law in providing legal counsel and representation to the City and its various departments, agencies, boards, officials and employees.
- Performs legal research and renders both oral and written legal opinions.
- Provides representation at administrative tribunals, municipal and state common pleas and appellate courts, including jury and non‑jury matters.
- Handles plea negotiations and settlements of civil cases, controversies and claims.
- Drafts memorandum, pleadings, briefs, contracts, ordinances, resolutions, legislation proposals, leases, deeds, purchase agreements and administrative regulations and policies on behalf of the City.
- Stays informed of municipal, criminal, and related fields of law and fulfills all Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements.
- L.L.B. or J.D. from an accredited law school in good standing with the Ohio Bar Association and 3 years of experience as a practicing attorney.
- Master’s degree in Business Administration or Public Administration may be substituted for one year of the above required experience.
- Degree must be from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education through the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Higher Learning Commission or equivalent region.
Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.
Special RequirementsMust be licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.
