Job Overview
Assurance Senior Manager responsible for developing suggestions to improve client internal controls and accounting procedures, advising on economic and regulatory risks, identifying performance measures, formulating and communicating the audit plan, answering complex questions involving GAAP and GAAS, and composing technical consultation memos on engagements related to GAAP/GAAS issues.
Job SummaryMarketing, networking, and business development within an area of expertise while maintaining key client relationships and acting as the primary contact for clients regarding complex questions. Critical part of the region’s Assurance leadership team with involvement in direct supervision, problem resolution, and delegation stages of the overall audit.
Responsibilities- Apply advanced knowledge of internal control environment to validate effectiveness of internal control over financial reporting.
- Identify and communicate to management and audit committee suggestions to improve client internal controls and accounting procedures.
- Delegate functions of the audit as deemed appropriate and supervise the audit team, reviewing work papers and conclusions, preferably onsite.
- Provide on‑job training to engagement staff during audit field work.
- Apply advanced knowledge of GAAP to client transactions, document and communicate applications, identify complex accounting issues, and consult with BDO technical experts as needed.
- Apply advanced knowledge of SEC regulations and PCAOB guidelines, review SEC filings, and ensure compliance with engagement independence requirements.
- Provide guidance on GAAS, confirm professional standards, communicate matters required to be reported to Audit Committee/Board.
- Apply BDO methodology, including detailed review, preparing communications, recommending outcomes, initiating acceptance procedures, and maintaining quality, efficiency, and completeness.
- Conduct research using authoritative sources, develop methodologies, prepare memos, and present issues to reviewers.
- Set tone for teamwork, supervise managers and associates, review work, act as a career advisor, manage workload, provide performance feedback, and coach for on‑the‑job learning.
- Bachelor’s degree required; major in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Statistics preferred.
- Master’s degree in Accountancy preferred.
- Seven or more years of prior relevant audit experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting or consulting/professional services experience required.
- Prior significant supervisory experience required.
- Industry expertise in one or more assurance specialty preferred.
- Active licensed US CPA or recognized active International Equivalent required.
- International equivalents must obtain an active US CPA license within the approved timeframe.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
- Experience with assurance applications and research tools preferred.
- Strong leadership skills and role model to managers and staff.
- Advanced GAAP and GAAS knowledge.
- Sound working knowledge of SEC and PCAOB rules.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent people development, delegation, and engagement scheduling skills.
- Executive presence; primary contact for clients and presenter of presentations.
- Client development and relationship‑building skills.
- Decision‑making skills and ability to resolve complex accounting issues.
- Business development and marketing responsibility.
- Knowledge of BDO client service specialties and BDO Alliance.
- Responsibility for engagement profitability, including billings and collections.
