Material Handler 1st Shift

Position: Material Handler -- 1st Shift
Position Summary

Performs a variety of activities involved in the overall running of the production facility. Primary responsibilities include locating and transferring material to and from production equipment for processing.

Key Responsibilities

* Use the computer to identify what materials are needed at a given piece of production equipment.

* Use forklift, stand-up probe, or clamp trucks to locate and transfer material to the production machines and from the machines to storage.

* Utilize scanners to electronically relocate any material when it is moved.

* Participate as part of the crew in following environmental, safety, and housekeeping standards and regulations, including emptying waste bins.

* Assist in inventory counts and purging of aged inventory.

* Regular attendance is required.

* Work towards optimizing productivity and waste reduction.

* Communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and maintenance to resolve issues.

* Perform all 5S activities as assigned in the time frame provided per procedures.

* Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor, Converting Manager, or Lead Operator.

Skills

* Experience:

Minimum 6 months of previous experience in operating forklifts is required. Operating in a manufacturing environment is preferred.

* Attention to Detail:

Precision in operation and quality control tasks.

* Critical Thinking:

Ability to analyze and solve problems quickly and efficiently.

* Team Player:

Strong collaborative skills to work effectively with the production team.

Abilities

* Basic Math:

Understanding and application of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, including fractions and decimals.

* Communication:

Effective communication is crucial. You will need to communicate and collaborate with colleagues working different shifts, ensuring smooth shift-exchange and sharing relevant information.

* Flexibility and Adaptability:

The ability to maintain regular attendance is crucial. The ability to adapt to varying shift lengths and workdays (8-12 hour shifts and occasional weekends).

* Stamina:

Often involves extended periods of activity and concentration.

* Time Management:

Effective time management skills to stay focused, prioritize tasks, and maintain productivity throughout the entire shift.

Education and/or Experience

* High School Diploma or GED is required.

* Ability to use basic computer systems hardware and software.

* 1-2 years of manufacturing experience is preferred.

Safety

* Follow all EHS standards and regulations, facility work rules, and contribute to the safety of all employees, visitors, and contractors.

* Pre-start truck safety checklists, shift exchange.

* Attend all safety training and meetings.

* Contribute to the Hazard .

Work Environment

This position works in the production facility. Appropriate clothing, eye and foot protection are mandatory, and hearing protection is required in designated areas.

* Constant standing, walking, repetitive motions, and eye/hand/foot coordination.

* Required to stand for extended periods without sitting, as well as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, bending, lifting, handling, grasping, and feeling.
