This posting serves to collect an applicant pool for future Licensed Practical Nurse positions for the school year. Positions may be full or part time. Selected candidates will be contacted directly when positions become available.
Job OverviewUnder supervision, Licensed Practical Nurses provide basic school nursing services, including patient examination, treatment, health promotion, and maintenance at Minneapolis Public Schools. Responsibilities include administering medications, maintaining health records, assisting with screenings, and supporting students with physical handicaps.
Essential Functions- Follow protocols to administer medications and treatments, providing first aid and episodic care under supervision.
- Assess student health status through physical assessment skills and vital sign monitoring.
- Participate in care plans for students with special needs, including medically fragile or technology-dependent students.
- Communicate student health conditions and responses to the licensed school nurse, teachers, and parents/guardians.
- Maintain infection control and disease protocols.
- Assist with vision, hearing, and scoliosis screenings.
- Participate in emergency response planning and execution.
- Maintain accurate health records and enter data into electronic health systems.
- Manage inventory of medical supplies and re-order as needed.
- Promote a respectful and cooperative environment with students and staff.
- Maintain confidentiality of all work-related information.
- Graduate from an accredited LPN program with at least 2 years of experience or equivalent.
- Knowledge of laws and regulations governing school health in Minnesota.
- Current pediatric nursing practice, medical terminology, and health safety protocols.
- Strong assessment, communication, and emergency response skills.
- Valid Minnesota LPN license.
- Ongoing First Aid/CPR certification.
Work involves moderate physical activity, including lifting up to 40 pounds, and exposure to health hazards. Ability to respond quickly to emergencies and perform CPR is required.
