M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center, located on the East Bank of the Mississippi River in Minneapolis, is looking for a dedicated Patient Care Supervisor to help lead the Emergency Room and Outpatient Observation teams. Are you ready to join this exciting group of people?
The Emergency Room Patient Care Supervisor assists the Manager/Director with department operations, supervising personnel and projects as delegated. Responsibilities include human resources management, nursing practice, quality and safety, regulatory compliance, finance and other operational accountabilities.
Our partnership with the University of Minnesota Medical School and University of Minnesota Physicians provides the platform to specialize in breakthrough treatments, surgical techniques, lifesaving therapies, and to train tomorrow's physicians. Clinical trials advance our clinical services, bringing the very newest ideas in patient care.
- 37 beds.
- Provides care to 30,000 patients annually, average 80 daily.
- Multidisciplinary approach to all emergencies.
- Care delivery team:
Board Certified/Eligible ED physicians, RNs, ER Techs, Health Unit Coordinators, 4-5 patients per RN.

Responsibilities- Partner with Manager/Director to supervise/lead day‑to‑day or shift‑to‑shift operations to ensure support of the mission, vision, values and goals of the organization.
- Assist Manager/Director to plan, lead, coordinate and evaluate patient care activities including staffing, resource management, quality and safety, regulatory compliance, and financial management.
- Prioritize assignments to assure timely, productive, and efficient use of resources.
- Assist with equipment inventory and supply management within operational budget.
- Collaborate with Nursing, Provider leadership and other partners to implement and evaluate standards of practice.
- Collect and analyze quality data and apply process improvement methodology to ensure delivery of safe and quality patient care.
- Act as a change agent in system change, procedure change and process changes.
- Demonstrate skills/abilities in provision of patient care.
- Ensure unit protocols, benchmarks, and hospital procedures are initiated appropriately.
Assist the Manager/Director in developing, implementing, supervising, and evaluating quality improvement initiatives. Assist with human resources management to achieve quality service and positive employee relations. Ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures. Advocate for patient, family and staff needs. Drive improvement activities that promote patient‑centered care and positive customer experience. Promote a culture of high employee engagement, professional development, nursing education and research.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing RN. If Master’s degree is in nursing or healthcare, Bachelor’s degree in other area of study will be accepted.
- Two years nursing experience, at least one of which in a formal or informal (charge, lead, preceptor) leadership role. Knowledge of patient population served in area of responsibility.
- Licensed Registered Nurse. Ability to obtain Minnesota nursing license at time of hire.
- BLS certification.
- Master’s degree in nursing, health care administration, business administration or related field.
- ANCC or AONL Certification.
