Registered Nurse - Donor Care Unit

Job Overview

The Donor Care Unit (DCU) is a collaboration between M Health Fairview UMMC and Life Source to provide specialized and dedicated care to organ donors. Located within the Park Plaza building, the DCU contains 4 Intensive Care Unit beds and 2 Operating Room suites to accommodate the organ evaluation and procurement process.

The Critical Care RN will work closely with DCU Providers and Life Source throughout the organ evaluation process to ensure donor management goals are met. The RN will be responsible for close observation, hemodynamic monitoring, medication management, assistance with bedside procedures and respiratory support for the organ donor. Critical thinking and effective communication with all the members of the care team and families will be required.

This is a casual position consisting of on-call shifts. RN will be activated when there is a donor present.

• Assessing donor needs and identifying expected nursing outcomes.
• Developing an individualized nursing plan of care.
• Implementing interventions as needed during treatment based on the plan of care.
• Evaluating care and donor response to interventions and expected outcomes.
• Using communication strategies to achieve desirable outcomes.
• Coordinating care with members of the health care team and delegating responsibilities to others as appropriate.
• Demonstrating the ability to advance care by applying standards, guidelines, care pathways, and continuous improvement to enhance patient outcomes.
• Promoting a culture of evidence based practice (EBP) by participating in a multitude of available opportunities.
• Performing these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedures, professional practice guidelines and the MN Nurse Practice Act.

Education:

• AD

Experience:

• One year of ICU experience

License/Certification/Registration:

• Current MN RN License
• BLS
• ACLS

Education:

• BSN or BAN

Experience:

• CRRT
• Prior work with organ donors

The posted compensation range corresponds to the minimum and maximum pay rates outlined in your union agreement for the respective job classifications at the time of job posting.
