Position SummaryThe Security Officer is responsible for ensuring a safe and secure Children’s campus. The Security Officer will patrol the hospital, grounds and outlying buildings, respond to all calls and promote a safe environment for patients, visitors and employees.
Duties & Responsibilities- Must possess a valid driver's license meeting Children’s Minnesota Fleet Safety Management policy.
- Must successfully pass background checks with the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) and Department of Human Services (DHS).
- Prepare verbal and written reports.
- Demonstrate good verbal, writing and computer skills.
- Complete and pass use of force training within 30 days of hire.
- Complete and pass Basic Life Support (BLS) and AED training within 90 days of hire.
- Wear respiratory protection (N-95, full face respirator, PAPR) and be fit tested.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, Business, Psychology or Sociology preferred.
- Prior experience responding and intervening in emergency situations preferred.
- Prior Law Enforcement or security experience preferred.
- Emergency Operations Center experience preferred.
- Healthcare knowledge/experience preferred.
- POST skills, IAHSS Basic, First Responder, EMT or OSHA first responder certifications preferred.
- Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), CPP, CFI, PSP, PCI preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
- Ability to work independently and as a team.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Knowledge of de‑escalation, use of force continuum, and arrest laws preferred.
- Physical ability to walk, climb stairs, stand for extended periods and work outdoors in extreme weather.
- Ability to see and hear accurately in both day and nighttime conditions.
- Skill with portable radio devices and detecting irregularities.
- Maintain confidentiality.

Compensation & BenefitsThe posted salary range is competitive. Additional benefits may include medical, dental, vision, retirement and other fringe benefits. Shift differentials or premium pay may apply for night, weekend or on‑call work.
