Job Overview: Fairview is looking for a Security Officer to join our University of MN Medical Center team in Minneapolis, MN. The Security Officer provides safety and security for patients, visitors, staff, and property by responding to needs, offering assistance, and providing excellent customer service. The officer proactively works to prevent theft and vandalism and may be involved in high‑risk situations requiring safety precautions.

Schedule:

• 0.9 FTE (72 hours per pay period)
• evening shift
• every other weekend

Week 1:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday 3p-11:30p.

Week 2:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 3p-11:30p.

Job Responsibilities:

• Patrols designated areas according to established procedures and documents patrols in daily shift reports.
• Documents daily activities in report writing system.
• Provides assistance to patients, visitors, and staff.
• Responds to calls for services.
• Assists in controlling potentially violent individuals, requiring strength, stamina, flexibility, and critical thinking.
• Works with unpredictable individuals requiring teamwork and communication with other security officers.
• Maintains knowledge of and complies with relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards.
• Actively participates in creating and implementing improvements.

Required:

• Experience:
  
  2 years of security, law enforcement, or military experience, OR an Associate’s degree and 1 year of security, law enforcement, or military experience, OR a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
• License/Certification:
  Valid Class D Driver’s License and a clean DMV record.

Preferred:

• Previous hospital security experience.
• Certifications like Certified Peace Officer (POST) or Emergency Medical Technician Basic (EMT‑B).
