Job Duties
- Maintain, repair, and overhaul heavy vehicles and industrial equipment.
- Interpret work orders and technical manuals.
- Keep equipment clean, lubricated, and maintained.
- Diagnose faults or malfunctions.
- Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components or systems.
- Obey all workplace health and safety and code of conduct workplace rules.
- Undertake the training and assessment required under the training plan.
The Journeyman Mechanic is responsible for independently diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy vehicles and industrial equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation. The role interprets work orders, identifies mechanical issues, performs necessary repairs or adjustments, and upholds all safety and compliance standards. The mechanic works with moderate supervision while ensuring consistent, high‑quality maintenance and operational readiness of equipment.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements- ASE certifications are a plus.
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job.
- Repetitive lifting, pushing, pulling and climbing.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions.
- Excellent diagnostic and problem‑solving skills.
- Good hand‑eye coordination and manual dexterity.
- Waste industry experience, a plus.
- Completion of college or vocational or technical training, a plus.
- Experience with routine maintenance operations is required.
- A valid CDL driver license is a plus.
- Must be 21 years of age, or older.
- Handling heavy tools and parts, sometimes lifting up to 70 pounds.
- Prolonged periods of standing, bending, and working in awkward positions.
- Fine motor skills for handling small parts and tools.
- Typically work in garages or workshops, which may be noisy, have unpleasant odors, and limited ventilation.
- Exposure to chemicals, oils, and other hazardous substances.
- Often required to wear protective gear, such as gloves and safety glasses.
- May be required to lift up to 75 pounds.
