Backend Software Engineer

Base pay range

$75.00/hr - $85.00/hr

Opportunity available for a skilled Backend Software Engineer with experience in Java, Kotlin, and Kafka. This role focuses on designing, building, and optimizing backend services for high-scale, mission‑critical applications. Candidates must be local to the Twin Cities area and able to work onsite.

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Java and Kotlin.
• Build and optimize event‑driven systems leveraging Apache Kafka.
• Develop scalable APIs, microservices, and backend components.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to define technical solutions and system design.
• Ensure code quality through automated testing, code reviews, and best engineering practices.
• Identify performance issues and implement optimizations.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and modernization initiatives.
• Work in an Agile environment to deliver high‑quality features.

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience.
• Professional experience with Java and Kotlin.
• Hands‑on experience with Kafka for event streaming or message‑driven workflows.
• Strong understanding of microservices, distributed systems, and RESTful API design.

• Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and cloud‑native development.
• Local to the Twin Cities area and available to work onsite.
