The Sports and Recreation Coordinator, Referees has two-fold responsibilities: to work closely with the Referee Administrator to ensure all elements of the referee program are complete, and to be the lead or assist on assigned tournaments or program functions as an event manager or registrar. This position requires work outside of traditional business hours as needed. The employee will have the ability to coordinate with their supervisor flexible working hours and remote activity.

Required working days include, but are not limited to NSC tournaments.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Referee Administration
    • Works closely with Referee Administrator colleague to complete many duties below.
    • Some duties will be unique to each position
    • Supervise and assign referees for all soccer events and programs; this includes high volume assigning that can include 20-400+ officials per event
    • Coordinate and schedule staff for Referee HQ for all events, and manage referee needs during tournaments
    • Complete post-event duties in assigning platform: adjustments for on-site assignment changes, manual adjustments to pay, and preparation of the event for payment approval/processing, spending recap reports
    • Work with Referee Administrator to coordinate marketing and communications plans
    • Coordinate compliance with internal and external processes (ex. US Soccer eligibility, internal payroll processes)
    • Complete seasonal market research and analysis to provide referee pay scale recommendations
  • Referee Development, Recruitment, and Community Engagement
    • Maintain positive working relationship with Minnesota State Referee Committee, and other referee groups
    • Design referee community engagement, recruitment, and retention efforts (including
    • Develop a soccer referee mentorship program to be deployed for NSC soccer events, as applicable.
    • Lead instructional and staff plan for all soccer referee education/training clinics
    • Recruit domestic and international referees for tournaments
    • Direct and oversee events for referee recruitment and development
  • Event Management and Registration
    • Event manager and/or registrar of tournaments, leagues, or programs (specific event assignments TBD pending candidate)
    • Deliver professional and efficient customer service to internal and external customers
    • Explore and create new events as time and availability allow
    • Work with Recruiting Manager on trips and opportunities to recruit teams and referees for events
  • REQUIRED

    SKILLS AND ABILITIES
    • Skills
      • Intermediate or greater functionality in Microsoft Excel and Word
      • Knowledge of soccer rules and changes that occur from year to year
      • Understanding of the soccer landscape in Minnesota and the United States
      • Develop, communicate, and execute ideas and action plans
      • Strong professional communication in writing and by phone
      • Great organizational and systems thinking skills to coordinate assignments overlapping events
      • Excellent problem-solving skills are required to collect, analyze, and organize information
      • Creativity to develop programs within the constraints of policies, regulations, and supervisory direction
    • Abilities
      • Manage and prioritize a high volume of tasks
      • Work as a team and identify steps to accomplish goals
      • Work with people from a variety of cultures and backgrounds
      • Manage multiple events budgets, spending reports, and payroll records
    Conditions
    • Maintain US Soccer referee and assignor certification in good standing, including annual Safe Sport certification and background check
    Education/Experience

    Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in event planning of recreation

    Classification:
    Full Time salaried, exempt from FLSA overtime regulation
