SummaryThe Transportation Assistant – Transportation Coordinator acts as the primary contact to Veterans for transportation needs. The incumbent works with the Veteran Transportation Service (VTS) Supervisory Mobility Manager for transportation workload forecasting, scheduling design, procedure development, quality improvement implementation, modification of processes, evaluation, and ongoing operational flow of the Veteran Transportation Services program.
QualificationsApplicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement (01/12/2026). Time‑In‑Grade Requirement:
Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time‑in‑grade requirements by the closing date. For a GS‑06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS‑05. The grade may have been in any occupation – but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF‑50 that shows your time‑in‑grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.
If the most recent SF‑50 has an effective date within the past year – it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one‑year time‑in‑grade – as required by the announcement. In this instance – you must provide an additional SF‑50 that clearly demonstrates one‑year time‑in‑grade.

Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS‑05) in the Federal Service – that is directly related to the work of the position and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties as a Transportation Assistant – Transportation Coordinator. Qualifying specialized experience includes: performing transportation support duties such as coordinating connections/scheduling – documenting travel information;
collecting – compiling – and tracking data on a daily basis; performing a basic analysis of data and generating a variety of reports; entering data into automated tracking databases; and planning and directing a program that provides support services.
NOTE:
One (1) full year of work is considered to be 35‑40 hours of work per week. Part‑time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours per week spent in such employment.
You will be asked to participate in a pre‑employment examination or evaluation as part of the pre‑employment process for this position. Questions about physical demands or environmental factors may be addressed at the time of evaluation or examination. Incumbent will be exposed to stressful working situations that require a professional attitude and collective reasoning. The incumbent is subject to a high volume of work – the need for accuracy – frequency of interruptions – and ever‑changing demands due to program changes.
WorkEnvironment
Duties will be predominantly performed in the Veteran Transportation Service program office with intermittent trips to various locations throughout the Medical Center’s catchment area both in and near patient care areas where there may be risk of exposure to disease.
