Warehouse Assistant
Position Summary
The Warehouse Assistant is an entry‑level, hands‑on role responsible for supporting ICA’s food logistics and facility operations. This position ensures food is safely received, stored, prepared, and distributed, while also helping maintain a clean, safe, and functional warehouse and program spaces. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys physical, task‑based work, takes pride in keeping systems running smoothly, and values being part of a mission‑driven team.
Key Responsibilities
Warehouse
- Assist with receiving, sorting, and storing food according to food safety standards
- Support stocking and organization of dry storage, coolers, and freezers
- Assist with packing food orders for off‑site pantries and markets
- Help load and unload food for deliveries and distributions
- Drive ICA truck and van as necessary to assist with food pickup and delivery
- Follow established inventory, labeling, and rotation procedures (FIFO)
Facilities & Custodial Support
- Perform routine cleaning and sanitation of warehouse, storage, and food handling areas
- Support trash, recycling, and compost removal
- Assist with maintaining clean, safe volunteer and staff work spaces
- Report facility, equipment, or safety concerns to supervisor
- Support light facility tasks as assigned (e.g., restocking supplies, basic upkeep coordination)
- Work alongside volunteers during warehouse and packing activities
- Provide task‑level guidance to volunteers as directed by Warehouse Lead
- Model safe food handling, teamwork, and respectful communication
Safety & Quality
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety guidelines
- Use proper lifting techniques and safety equipment
- Flag quality issues, spoilage, or process concerns promptly
- Support a culture of safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement
Required Qualifications
- Valid Driver’s License and comfortable driving 15 passenger van and larger vehicles
- Ability to lift up to 40–50 pounds repeatedly
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work in a physically active environment
- Comfort working in warehouse settings, including coolers and freezers
- Reliability, punctuality, and strong attention to detail
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in warehouse, food handling, custodial, or logistics environments
- Familiarity with basic food safety practices
- Truck driving experience and CDL
- Experience working with volunteers or in nonprofit settings
