SM Hentges & Sons Inc. is seeking an experienced Project Superintendent to oversee field operations on complex civil construction projects across the Midwest. As the on‑site leader, the Superintendent is responsible for coordinating crews, subcontractors, and equipment while maintaining project timelines and budgets. Key Responsibilities

Lead all day‑to‑day field operations, managing crews, subcontractors, materials, and equipment

Maintain daily and weekly work plans aligned with the master project schedule

Communicate with Project Managers, engineers, inspectors, and clients to keep everyone aligned

Enforce safety standards and company policies, promoting a culture of accountability

Monitor jobsite productivity, quality, and compliance with specifications and DOT standards

Manage logistics, deliveries, and equipment use to keep the jobsite organized and efficient

Record and report daily field activity including labor, materials, equipment, and delays

Collaborate with PMs on cost control, scheduling, and project forecasting

Provide mentorship and guidance to field crews, fostering team development

Identify and resolve field issues proactively to avoid delays and added costs

Qualifications

7+ years of experience in heavy civil construction (highways, utilities, bridges, grading, etc.)

Proven success leading field teams on large‑scale projects

Strong knowledge of sitework, paving, earthmoving, and municipal/DOT project delivery

Ability to interpret construction plans, specifications, and safety standards

Excellent communication, coordination, and conflict resolution skills

Proficient with daily reporting, schedule tracking, and field documentation

Familiarity with construction software (HCSS, Procore, or similar) is a plus

High school diploma or GED required

Schedule

Full-Time

Monday to Friday

Weekend work may be required based on project timelines

Location

Onsite at civil construction projects throughout the Midwest

Travel required to various job locations based on project assignments
