Description
St. George is a small Catholic parish in the western suburbs seeking a part-time Director of Music to coordinate and oversee all aspects of the music ministry. This role requires someone who is adept at cantoring, playing piano, and directing choir members, cantors, a piano accompanist, and other instrumentalists. The Director of Music plans and leads music at two weekend Masses (Saturday 4pm, Sunday 9:15am), directs an adult choir weekly from September through Pentecost, and directs a youth choir monthly from September through May.
Additionally, the Director of Music will provide music for funerals, weddings, holy days, and other scheduled Masses and events as needed.
This is a part-time position with no benefits. Salary range is $25,000-$27,000 based on experience.
Qualifications- Proficiency in cantoring
- Proficiency in playing the piano, as well as accompanying a choir
- Strong knowledge of Catholic music and liturgy
- Ability to lead adult and youth choirs, as well as cantors, a piano accompanist, and instrumentalists
- Ability to work with people of all ages and varying skill levels
- Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills, moderate to strong computer skills
- Ability to collaborate with the pastor, parish staff, and music ministry volunteers
- Ability to set up music equipment and operate the sound system
A passion for music, the ability to take initiative, and an enthusiasm for working with others in a parish setting
