Akicita Federal, a tribally owned small business affiliated with the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe, is recruiting licensed dentists to provide contract dental services for the Indian Health Service at the White Earth Service Unit in northwestern Minnesota. You’ll deliver emergency and routine dental care to American Indian patients of all ages, from infants to elders. The work rotates across three clinics:
White Earth Health Center (Ogema), Pine Point Dental Clinic (Ponsford), and Naytahwaush Health Center (Mahnomen).

$301,599 - $312,000 a year
Schedule- Monday through Friday, 8-hour days between 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM
- No weekends, no federal holidays, no overtime
- Approximately 10 patients per day, with dental assistant, scheduling, and pharmacy support provided
- Perform oral and radiographic exams, interpret radiographs, diagnose, and develop treatment plans
- Provide restorative, pediatric, periodontal, endodontic, prosthodontic, surgical, and preventive care
- Perform simple and complex restorations, extractions (including full-mouth and select surgical cases), alveoloplasty, biopsies, and incision and drainage
- Complete root canal therapy on anterior and posterior teeth, including select complicated molar cases, and place intra-canal posts
- Fabricate and deliver crowns, bridges, and complete and immediate dentures, including chairside relines and same-day repairs
- Treat pediatric patients, including rampant caries, and manage select challenging pediatric cases without a pediatric dentist on site
- Manage traumatic dental emergencies, including avulsed teeth and splinting, and co-manage jaw fractures with oral surgery
- Screen for hypertension and diabetes, and refer patients for medical evaluation as needed
- Manage medically complex patients, including obtaining records and consulting with physicians
- Educate patients on oral hygiene, nutrition, and the oral health effects of tobacco, alcohol, and drugs, and make cessation referrals
- Coordinate outside referrals and follow-up care
- Document care accurately in the EHR and Dentrix
- DDS or DMD from a nationally recognized program
- Current, unrestricted dental license in any U.S. state
- At least 3 years of dental practice experience, with active practice within the last 6 months
- Training and experience in Level 1 sedation
- Current BLS certification meeting AHA guidelines
- Documented continuing education
- Two peer references who have observed your clinical work within the last 2 years
- U.S. citizenship, or otherwise meet applicable requirements
- Not listed on the HHS-OIG exclusion list
- Comfortable with computers, Microsoft Office, and electronic health records. You must be independent in the clinic’s systems within 2 weeks of starting.
- Clear spoken and written English, and the interpersonal skills to work well with patients from diverse backgrounds
