Highlights of your role:

The Record Analyst/HIM Specialist/Medical Transcriptionist transcribes medical dictation for physicians and other health professionals. This HIM role also analyzes medical records for documentation deficiencies and extracts data for quality reporting purposes. Duties include release of information of protected health information, in addition to general medical record maintenance.

* Pay Range: $20.69-$28.96

* It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case and on several factors including relevant work experience, education, certification & licensure, and internal equity. Hourly pay is just one part of the compensation package for employees.

What

you’ll get to do in this role:

Transcribes or edits medical dictation for physicians and other healthcare professionals using correct medical terminology, spelling and punctuation.

Analyzes medical records for documentation deficiencies/inaccuracies, including imaging reports.

Releases protected health information to a variety of requestors.

Abstracts and compiles data for quality measures, risk management etc.

Completes birth registration according to guidelines set forth from the Minnesota Department of Vital.

Assists utilization review in admission authorization/certification of hospital services.

Extracts data from the electronic record system for reporting purposes including quality measures, registries and statistical reports.

Performs various clerical and administrative functions as requested by Nursing, Medical Staff and other departments.

You’re an excellent fit, if you have:
  • medical secretary program, experience preferred
  • thorough knowledge of anatomy, medical terminology, medical procedures, medications, and laboratory test information
  • knowledge of medical records procedures and practices
  • competencywith transcribing equipment and software
  • good attention to detail; strives for accuracy
  • ability to work independently
  • high degree of self motivation
  • ability to work in teams with other departments
