Overview

The role involves working in a range of environments including GP practices, pharmacy hub and patients’ own homes, with an emphasis on high quality patient‑centred pharmaceutical care. Experience working in primary care is desirable.

Key Details
  • Fixed Term / Secondment for up to 7 months
  • BAND 4 or 5 (depending on experience)
  • Hours:

    up to 37 hours per week; part‑time applicants will be considered.
  • From 01 April 2026, NHS Scotland reduces the full‑time working week to 36 hours; pay remains unchanged.
Responsibilities
  • Deliver high‑quality patient‑centred pharmaceutical care across GP practices, pharmacy hub and patients’ homes.
  • Work independently and as part of a team.
  • Supervise and work effectively with a large group of staff.
  • Adapt to change and meet tight deadlines.
  • Use IT competently.
Qualifications
  • Registered as a pharmacy technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Experience in primary care desirable.
  • Will undertake a Band 4 Pharmacy Technician career progression programme if not meeting Band 5 criteria, with progression to Band 5 upon successful completion.
Qualities
  • Personal and professional philosophy that puts patients at the centre of service activity.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to supervise and work effectively with a large group of staff.
  • Ability to adapt to change and meet tight deadlines.
  • Competence in using IT.
