Human Resource‑Safety Manager Summary
The HR & Safety Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of human resources and workplace safety within the organization. This role oversees employee relations, recruitment, training, compliance, and performance management, while also developing and implementing safety programs to ensure a healthy and compliant workplace. The HR & Safety Manager serves as a strategic partner to leadership and a resource for employees, promoting a culture of engagement, accountability, and safety.
EssentialFunctions Human Resources
- Develop, implement, and manage HR policies and procedures aligned with organizational goals and compliance requirements.
- Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and retention strategies to attract and retain top talent.
- Support managers with performance management, employee development, and disciplinary processes.
- Administer compensation, benefits, and leave programs in partnership with payroll and finance.
- Maintain HRIS and personnel records ensuring confidentiality and compliance with applicable laws.
- Lead employee engagement initiatives and foster a positive workplace culture.
- Develop, implement, and monitor workplace health and safety programs, policies, and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, federal, state, and local safety regulations.
- Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
- Lead safety training programs, including new hire orientation, refresher courses, and specialized training.
- Investigate workplace incidents/accidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
- Serve as the primary contact for workers' compensation claims and reporting.
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on HR and safety matters.
- Provide coaching and guidance to managers and employees.
- Lead cross-departmental initiatives that support organizational development and safety culture for all shifts.
- Stay up to date on HR trends, labor laws, and safety regulations, recommending proactive changes.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Occupational Safety, or related field (Master's preferred).
- 5+ years of progressive HR and/or safety management experience.
- Strong knowledge of HR laws, regulations, and best practices.
- In-depth understanding of OSHA standards and workplace safety compliance.
- Professional certification preferred (SHRM‑CP/SHRM‑SCP, PHR/SPHR, CSP, or similar).
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to build trust, influence others, and manage sensitive situations with discretion.
- Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language for safety purposes.
Our office environment is a typical office environment and does not substantially expose workers to adverse environmental conditions. The position will require frequent visits to the shop floor. Our production environment includes a variety of environmental elements including loud noise, dust, and aromas. While this is an indoor operation, temperatures will vary with the outdoor temperature and some areas of the shop may be hot or cold.
Physical Requirements- Office positions are usually sedentary. The employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time.
- Noise level in the office is typically quiet to moderate. Occasional brief trips to the production floor may be required.
