Location Description

Michael Foods, Inc. located in Gaylord, Minnesota is Minnesota's Healthy Heartland! Gaylord is located in south central Minnesota about an hour west of the Twin Cities and 35 minutes from Mankato, Hutchinson, and New Ulm. As the County Seat, Gaylord is the "Hub of Sibley County." Our location produces liquid egg, hardcook egg, and precooked egg such as scrambled, patties and omelets.
Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY: The Payroll Supervisor supervises Payroll Administrators, ensuring that all processes are executed appropriately and in a timely manner. Operate as the subject matter expert and escalation point to resolve issues and continuously looks for improvements in operational processes and designs and implements those initiatives. Optimizes the contribution of the team through coaching, counseling and implements workable solutions to business issues/problems with minimum referral to management.

This position has the responsibility to comply with Safety work rules at all times as well as an obligation to reinforce Safety as a Core Value. Ensures that all policies, procedures and activities, related to Food Safety & Quality, are followed and complied with uniformly, in an effort to reduce product and process variability.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and review the day-to-day operations of the Payroll team, ensuring process accuracy; payroll, Concur and general ledger activities are performed as required, and compliance of corporate policies and SOX.
  • Supervise payroll staff: monitor workload, ensuring appropriate coverage; evaluate performance and ensure team members acquire necessary skills in line with business and personal development needs.
  • Maintain payroll related control documentation and train team members on new or enhanced operation procedures and policies.
  • Partner with Human Resources and management on all payroll, Concur and general ledger related inquiries, identify issues and resolve problems.
  • Facilitate MFI payroll team calls/meetings, as required.
  • Provide guidance to and share knowledge with colleagues/team members.
  • Escalate potential service issues to Finance and HR.
  • Direct work within clear budgetary guidelines.
  • Develop, guide, train and monitor Payroll team, ensure corporate expectations are met, participate in employee hiring, and complete performance evaluations.
  • Define standards, controls and reusable approaches within the Payroll operational framework.
  • Identify process improvement initiatives and define standard operating procedures for processes.
  • Cover for team members in back-up role for vacation and/or high-volume work efforts.
  • Implement quality control measures.
  • Limited travel is required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

    JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

    EDUCATION:
    Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.

    EXPERIENCE :
    Minimum 5 years of experience in payroll or HRIS role; minimum of 3 years in a supervisory role.

    LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS: CPP is preferred.

    OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

  • Prior experience with reviewing, analyzing and implementing/conversion of payroll/HRIS system(s) preferred.
  • Advanced business analytics skills preferred; possess a strong analytical aptitude.
  • Proven ability to effectively manage projects independently.
  • Possess effective written and verbal communication that clearly communicates payroll’s concepts and policies.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams, handle multiple tasks and problem solve effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, manager, executives, and vendors.
  • Advance skills with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.)
  • Enthusiastic willingness to learn new technology and software as they are introduced.
