Welder 1 – 1st Shift Seam Finishing

Location: Winsted, MN

Pay: $22.95/hr – $27.00/hr (Non-Exempt)

Shift: 1st shift, Monday – Thursday, 5:00 am – 3:00 pm

We are looking for a Welder 1 (entry-level) to join our team as a Pole Seam Finishing in either Big Pole or Small Pole. A Welder 1 is responsible for performing MIG welding, layout, tacking, fabrication, and building functions in the manufacture of various products in accordance with product specifications. Successful completion of the internal welding test is mandatory.

Responsibilities
  • Perform GMAW welds (butt, V, single bevel, and fillet) on carbon steel
  • Carry out MIG welding tasks to comply with Welding Procedures Specifications (WPS) and CWI inspection requirements
  • Produce welds that pass visual inspection
  • Demonstrate the ability to weld the above joints with .045 and/or .062 diameter wires
  • Read and interpret welding symbols, blueprints, and welding gauges
  • Use appropriate wire and shielding gas according to WPS parameters
  • Layout and tack to specifications
  • Use grinders or other tools to clean, smooth, grind, or finish parts
  • Operate various machines to fabricate, build, and design products
  • Repair improperly welded pieces and fill holes
  • Monitor the production board and internal paperwork to perform tasks in the designated sequence
  • Accurately label all parts for routing to the next operation
  • Enter job data in the production tracking system
  • Operate crane, hoist, forklift, or other material‑handling equipment to move materials and products
  • Maintain quality and productivity requirements while working at the appropriate pace
  • Must be AWS GMAW certified
  • Certification Opportunity: Welders employed with Millerbernd may complete all AWS certification requirements within 14 days of employment
Qualifications
  • Successful completion of the internal welding test is mandatory
  • MIG welding experience preferred
  • Other combinations of formal training and experience will be considered
  • Proficient in welding techniques on flat, vertical, and rotating planes
  • Operational knowledge of electric plasma and acetylene torch
  • Proficient in interpreting blueprints, mechanical drawings, and weld symbols
  • Ability to operate hoists, cranes, and other powered industrial vehicles as needed
  • Ability to operate various power and hand tools
  • Knowledge of weld positioners, turners, fixtures, and equipment
  • Accurate use of tape measure and precision measuring instruments
  • Basic shop math skills
  • Electronic recordkeeping of production information
  • Read and understand required internal manufacturing paperwork
