Job Description SummaryRepairs, troubleshoots, and calibrates electrical systems and electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Work safely following plant and safety practices.
- Diagnose malfunctions of building, process, packaging, and refrigeration equipment and discuss with other maintenance workers.
- Communicate department work to production line leads.
- Assist in plant projects and startup activities.
- Diagnose and replace faulty components such as relays, switches, transformers, motor sensing devices, printed circuit boards, transmitters, receivers, and readout indicators.
- Calibrate and test measuring equipment (scales, flow meters, level indicators, temperature, pressure, and speed indicators) using test equipment (voltmeter, ammeter, signal generators, oscilloscope, and RTD simulators).
- Troubleshoot process control equipment and systems using computers to diagnose ladder logic.
- Develop and program controllers using associated computers and software.
- Interpret schematics and blueprints for installation and troubleshooting.
- Perform and maintain timely work orders and duties as assigned.
- Continue training programs to match new plant equipment.
- Mentor new employees through the training program.
- Aid in safety and training completion tracking.
- Perform other duties as directed by supervisor.
- Minimum:
Two‑year vocational degree in electrical or electronics, or current Minnesota State Electrical Master’s, Journeyman, Electrical Maintenance or Power Limited license. Preferred: 2–4 years related industrial experience. - Mathematical skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, rates, ratios, percentages, and graph interpretation.
- Reasoning: solve practical problems with limited standardization; interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Other skills: work well with others; strong computer skills (Excel, Word, AutoCAD); P.C. and AMI software experience; valid driver’s license.
- Physical demands:
Lift and carry up to 10 pounds frequently; lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently; lift and carry up to 50 pounds frequently; lift and carry up to 100 pounds frequently with help or a mechanical device; ability to use good body mechanics; perform dexterity testing; shoveling and sweeping occasionally; work overtime occasionally; work a 6‑on‑2‑off schedule or other types; climb ladders and stairs frequently;
bend and twist frequently; maintain safe work practices and follow all safety rules; push/pull up to 250 pounds occasionally; stand, walk continuously; sit occasionally; reach over shoulder height frequently; wear appropriate PPE; kneel, crouch, and crawl occasionally; work on heights requiring a safety harness; keep work area clean; work in high‐traffic areas; perform other duties as assigned.
- Continuously exposed to moving machinery and mechanical parts.
- May be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and chemical exposure due to cleaning and sanitizing processes.
- Temperature and/or humidity extremes, as well as exposure to vibration.
- Noise levels are loud, but hearing protection is provided and mandated.
- Occasional exposure to electrical shock hazards.
- Occasionally may work in precarious places – PPE is provided and mandated.
- When working in process areas the environment is wet and dirty.
