Job Summary

Assists operating surgeons in carrying out technical surgical procedures in accordance with applicable safety laws and regulations. Assists operating surgeons with intra‑operative procedures such as homeostasis, exposure, closure, etc. May follow up and participate with rounding on patients with provider. Develops specialized pre‑operative plans in coordination with appropriate surgeons and health team members. Prepares surgical tools and equipment and ensures sterility and safety standards.

Under the direction of the attending provider, administers pre‑operative medication and reports patient’s response to assigned surgeons and anesthesiologists. May assist with sterilizing and preparing required surgical instruments and equipment.

Responsible for utilizing the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes/planning, implementation and evaluation) to provide individualized nursing care to patients.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare surgical instruments, ensure sterility, and maintain safety standards.

  • Collaborate with inter‑professional colleagues to plan, implement, and evaluate care.
  • Apply the nursing process to provide individualized care within the scope of practice.
Qualifications
  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program;
    Bachelor’s Degree in nursing preferred.
  • Current unencumbered RN license issued by a state board; multistate licensure acceptable.
  • Certified CNOR (Certified Perioperative Nurse) by CCI; ongoing certification required.
  • Maintain required department‑specific competencies and certifications.
  • Ability to function within the scope and standards of nursing practice as outlined by the Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules.
