Morris Area Schools is seeking dependable, caring individuals to provide substitute coverage in our school health offices. Individuals with or without a health-care background are encouraged to apply. Training will be provided to help substitutes support students and carry out assigned health office responsibilities.
This position helps maintain a welcoming, organized health office and supports student well-being during a district nurse's absence. Responsibilities will be based on the substitute's qualifications, completed training, district procedures, and applicable requirements. This position does not independently assume the clinical responsibilities of a licensed school nurse.
Responsibilities- Welcome students to the health office and respond calmly and respectfully to their needs.
- Provide basic first aid and other authorized assistance within the scope of training.
- Follow district procedures for student illness, injury, and emergencies, including obtaining appropriate assistance.
- Communicate with parents, guardians, school staff, and designated health-care contacts as directed.
- Maintain accurate records of health office visits and assistance provided.
- Protect the confidentiality of student health information.
- Keep the health office clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies.
- Perform other assigned health office duties consistent with qualifications and training.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to work effectively with children and adolescents.
- Strong communication, organization, and recordkeeping skills.
- Ability to remain calm, follow established procedures, and recognize when additional assistance is needed.
- Willingness to complete required district training and background screening.
- Current first aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain certification as required by the district.
- Health-care, school, childcare, or caregiving experience is helpful but not required.
