This vacancy is being announced at both the Building Utilities Mechanic and General Repair Worker levels. Only one position will be filled, and the job classification level of the position will be determined based on the selected finalist’s qualifications.
Responsibilities- Install, maintain, and repair water, plumbing, heating/ventilation/air conditioning (HVAC) systems, building systems, and mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Assist the Building Maintenance Director in day‑to‑day building maintenance operations including estimating material and labor/time needed to complete repairs and maintenance work.
- Maintain the boiler system, as allowed by licensure, including checking and logging operations, shift operation, and the replacement or repair of valves as necessary.
- Perform campus groundskeeping duties, including lawn care and snow removal, which requires a current, valid driver’s license to drive a state vehicle.
This position is designated as full‑time and primarily day shift. The position is initially eligible for a full employer contribution towards health and dental insurance benefits.
Minimum Qualifications General Repair Worker- Current, valid driver’s license
- Ability to attain licensure in Minnesota as a 2nd Class C boiler operator within the probationary period
- Knowledge of the general methods and practices of a variety of trade areas (e.g., plumbing, electrical, HVAC, mechanics, and carpentry) sufficient to assist licensed trades workers and maintain/repair machinery, tools and facilities in a timely and safe manner
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety measures related to trades work sufficient to safely and efficiently perform the job duties
- Ability to safely use hand and power hand tools
- Ability to understand and follow instructions sufficient to interpret and carry out assignments in a safe and efficient manner
- Current licensure in Minnesota as a Journey Electrician or Master Electrician
- Current, valid driver’s license
- Ability to attain licensure in Minnesota as a 2nd Class C boiler operator within the probationary period
