Custom Residential AV​/Low Voltage Technician

Job Description

In-Focus Systems is looking for an experienced Custom Residential AV / Low Voltage Technician to join our Custom Residential team in the Twin Cities.

We are looking for a technician who takes pride in precise, clean work and can solve problems in the field. You should be able to follow project direction, recognize what needs to happen next, and troubleshoot a system methodically before asking for help. You will have a team to collaborate with, and you should know when an issue needs a design, scope, or customer decision.

What You'll Do

You'll work in custom homes throughout the Twin Cities, including:

• Installing, terminating, labeling, and testing low-voltage cabling and infrastructure

• Installing and connecting home audio/video, home theater, networking, Wi-Fi, automation, lighting and shading control, security, and surveillance equipment

• Mounting displays, speakers, cameras, racks, and other system components with care for the finished home

• Building and dressing equipment racks and keeping work organized and serviceable

• Reading plans, drawings, schematics, and project documentation

• Testing and commissioning systems, diagnosing faults, making appropriate repairs or adjustments, and verifying the result

• Handling assigned installation or service work with initiative while keeping the Project Manager informed of progress, issues, and changes

• Coordinating professionally with homeowners, builders, designers, electricians, and other trades

• Protecting the customer's home and leaving each work area clean and professional

• Documenting completed work, troubleshooting findings, and any open items

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who:

• Has hands-on experience with custom residential AV, low-voltage systems, home automation, networking, security, surveillance, or related technology

• Can troubleshoot independently: gather the facts, isolate the cause, use appropriate tools and documentation, test a solution, and confirm the system works

• Can take direction on project goals and standards, then organize and complete assigned work without needing constant step-by-step guidance

• Knows when to raise a safety concern, a change in scope, or an issue that requires a team or customer decision

• Can terminate and test common low-voltage cabling and is comfortable with hand and power tools

• Can read and follow plans, drawings, and system documentation

• Communicates clearly and respectfully with customers, Project Managers, coworkers, and other trades

• Pays attention to detail, follows through, and takes ownership of the quality of their work

• Is dependable, prepared, and comfortable working independently or with a team

Experience with integrated residential systems is highly valued, but we do not expect every candidate to know every product we install. Strong fundamentals, sound judgment, and a willingness to keep learning matter most.
