Membership Sales Directors are responsible for managing day to day tasks, welcoming guests and members to the gym, selling memberships and training services, and leading staff to work as a cohesive unit. This role requires a considerable amount of self‑motivation, leadership skills, ability to collaborate and communicate, and ability to influence others in a positive way.
Important:
This is a sales position. If you are uncomfortable with sales or calling complete strangers on the phone to invite them to stop in to see our club, this is not the position or industry for you. We are looking for a motivated salesperson who is ready to grow our membership base and help us grow our coaching program! Your main responsibility would be to sell our services and inspire others to believe in health and fitness.
Responsibilities
- Membership and training sales – qualify, inform, inspire, and convert leads to members using a proven system that doesn’t feel like sales.
- Personal Training Sales and Services – spend about one third of time leading pre‑designed group workouts, energizing clients, modifying exercises for skill levels, and ensuring safety with heart‑rate monitors.
- Club Promotional Marketing – establish relationships with local businesses and influencers, coordinate engagement campaigns, national marketing initiatives, and community outreach efforts.
- Community Involvement – participate in local Chamber of Commerce and community events to promote the club.
- Networking / Employee Wellness – collaborate with local and national employers to encourage healthier lifestyles among employees.
- Team Building – train, guide, and inspire all team members (personal trainers, group trainers, part‑time staff) to foster a trusting, positive environment.
- Member Experience – deliver top‑notch customer service, ensuring members and guests have exceptional experiences that inspire referrals.
- Operations – maintain a clean, safe, and well‑stocked gym at all times and oversee safety and security procedures.
- Staffed Hours – willing to work Saturdays during peak season months; hours may vary by season and scheduled events.
Job Requirements
- Must be 18 years or older.
- High school diploma minimum; bachelor’s or associate’s in an exercise‑related field is highly preferred.
- Sales experience preferred – or willingness to learn how to sell is a must.
- Management experience is a PLUS.
- Friendly, outgoing, warm, coachable, and adaptable to changes in a fast‑paced setting.
- Flexible hours, including Saturdays during peak season (October - March).
- Self‑motivated, able to motivate others, work independently without constant supervision.
- Excellent communication skills, time‑management, and teamwork.
- Positive attitude and ability to inspire action.
- Ability to safely lift and move up to 50 lbs. and perform duties in a gym setting.
