API Governance Lead – Huntington National Bank

We are seeking an experienced API Governance Lead to define, enforce, and evangelize enterprise‑wide API governance standards as part of Huntington’s API‑first strategy. The role requires a proactive leader who engages stakeholders, publishes and socializes governance models, and drives adoption through education, workshops, and lunch‑and‑learns.

• Establish and mature API governance policies aligned with Huntington’s architecture principles and industry best practices (OpenAPI, REST, Graph
  
  QL).
• Drive API design reviews, enforce naming conventions, versioning, and lifecycle policies.
• Actively socialize governance standards across teams through documentation, training sessions, and internal forums.
• Define governance processes integrated with Apigee X and Service Now for API publishing, cataloging, and analytics.
• Oversee API onboarding workflows via Apigee and Developer Portal ensuring compliance with governance standards.
• Implement governance for API security patterns (OAuth2, JWT, JWKS, mTLS) using Apigee X and Huntington’s identity management solutions.
• Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements (Open Banking, PSD2, HIPAA, GDPR).
• Partner with API Gateway and Developer Experience teams to optimize portal usability and API discoverability.
• Conduct training and enablement sessions for internal teams on governance best practices.
• Define monitoring priorities for API compliance and performance.
• Use Apigee Analytics and GCP tools to track adoption, enforce standards, and identify improvement opportunities.
• Continuously refine governance frameworks based on insights and evolving business needs.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years in IT with strong API design, development, and governance experience.
• 5+ years in API governance or platform leadership roles.
• Hands‑on experience with Apigee X and GCP services (Cloud Armor, IAM, VPC networking).
• Expertise in API security standards (OAuth2, JWT, mTLS) and identity management solutions.
• Strong knowledge of REST, OpenAPI specifications, and API lifecycle management.

• 10+ years in IT with strong API design, development, and governance experience.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills; ability to influence without authority.
• Proven ability to drive adoption through proactive engagement and education.
• GCP certifications (Professional Cloud Architect, Apigee API Engineer).
• Familiarity with API Gateway architecture and DNS strategies.
• Experience with CI/CD automation (Cloud Build, Terraform).

• Lead governance for a cutting‑edge Apigee X‑based API platform.
• Shape Huntington’s enterprise API‑first strategy and developer experience.
• Collaborate with top engineering and security teams to deliver secure, scalable APIs.

Compensation Range: Total Base Pay Range $70,000 – $140,000 USD annually. Actual compensation may vary based on location, experience, and performance. In addition to base pay, eligible for incentive compensation plans and the full suite of Huntington benefits, including health insurance, wellness program, life and disability insurance, retirement savings plan, paid leave, holidays, and PTO.

Workplace type: Office (hybrid options available – in‑office and work‑from‑home). Specific work arrangements will be provided by the hiring team.
