Overview

Traveling General Superintendent
- Aviation at JE Dunn Construction. This role reports into the National Aviation Vertical and requires 100% travel to project sites in the United States. The General Superintendent will develop and execute the project plan and oversee all aspects of assigned projects with significant complexity, manage the team, plan construction sequencing, and meet project goals in support of JE Dunn’s strategy, vision, and values.

Responsibilities
  • Leads all aspects of the company’s safety culture and fosters an injury-free environment through personal example and mentoring others. Investigates safety incidents and retrains staff as needed.
  • Provides management of subcontractors and organization of the overall job workflow.
  • Manages and oversees company staff, subcontractors, suppliers, and programs such as Safety, Quality, and EEO on projects of varying size.
  • Develops work plans for subcontractors and self-performed work.
  • Coordinates site care, custody, and control; leads daily standups and weekly trade meetings.
  • Attends and participates in progress and project OAC meetings; creates/updates the project schedule with the Project Manager.
  • Monitors and tracks project budget and costs using the project management system; communicates key project information to owners, design teams, authorities, subcontractors, suppliers, and departments.
  • Manages documentation, drawings, logs, diaries, and inspection notes; records unit costs and prepares reports.
  • Evaluates progress of self-perform work and adjusts as needed; manages materials and equipment needs; supports procurement processes (MOC and DLSC).
  • Assists in selecting formwork, tools, and equipment for self-perform operations; manages timecard approvals and ensures accurate hours/cost codes.
  • Ensures quality compliance through specifications, QA/QC, and external resources; supports project closeouts with pre-punch activities and coordination with owners, architects, and authorities.
  • Participates in project pursuit processes, pre-plans, and lifecycle project adjustments; partners with field leadership on staffing and with project management on schedule and cost changes.
  • Participates in negotiations with owners/architects for project changes and assists in project buyout meetings with subcontractors and vendors.
  • Understands and applies owner/subcontractor contracts; identifies and recruits top talent; promotes a culture of diversity and inclusion and adheres to JE Dunn’s non-discrimination policy.
Additional Core Responsibilities
  • Manages the largest, most complex stand-alone or multiple complex projects from planning to completion.
  • Provides management/oversight to multiple projects and teams; contributes to regional initiatives and development of training content; supports leadership messaging.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong written and verbal communication; proficient in presentations.
  • MS Office and project management software proficiency (intermediate to advanced).
  • In-depth knowledge of construction management fundamentals, project processes, and labor productivity.
  • Ability to build relationships across teams; adept at Lean principles and scheduling software; understands layout, crane flagging, rigging, and cost management.
  • Ability to manage budgets, profitability, and generate future work through relationships.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering or related field (Preferred).
  • Equivalent relevant experience considered in lieu of degree.
Experience
  • 12+ years construction experience.
  • 10+ years field supervision experience.
  • Experience leading Lean principles on projects (Preferred).
Working Environment
  • Valid and unrestricted driver’s license required.
