Overview
Youthworks is a compassionate, statewide nonprofit in North Dakota working to make sure every young person has a place to belong and be heard. Founded in 1986, we serve youth up to age 24 — including those who are homeless, runaway, trafficked, or facing court involvement — by providing crisis intervention, emergency shelter, and transitional housing. We also offer school-based programs (like Day Report), diversion for youth at risk of further justice system involvement, and anger-management classes for teens and parents.
For young adults (18–24), we offer furnished transitional living with counseling, mentoring, life-skills training, and practical support like food, transportation, education, and employment help. Our anti-human trafficking program supports survivors with individualized case management, counseling, and safe housing. We also run a school suspension program for students, and culturally grounded mentorship and connection through our Youth Cultural Achievement Project, especially for Native American youth.
Youthworks also maintains a 24/7 street-outreach and drop-in center offering food, clothes, hygiene items, crisis help, and referrals to services. Across our work, we use a Positive Youth Development philosophy — meeting young people where they are.

Through the Community Builder Program, the Youth Mentoring and Group Support Member will build trusted relationships with youth under 18 who are at risk for systems involvement, disengagement from school, or seeking positive ways to connect and grow. Members will mentor youth individually and in groups, supporting their development of prosocial skills, emotional well-being, leadership, and advocacy. Working as part of a local team of professionals, members will create spaces where youth feel seen, heard, and supported while learning to set goals and make positive choices.
