Role Description
The Field Engineer plays a key role in supporting WAVE’s design, engineering, and installation teams by ensuring each system is thoroughly prepared, accurately verified, and properly commissioned. This position bridges the gap between engineering and field execution, providing technical depth, system knowledge, and hands‑on support across the final phases of a project. This role also carries responsibility for managing smaller‑scale projects that do not require full engineering development.
The ideal candidate is an experienced, well‑rounded AVL professional with strong troubleshooting skills, an understanding of signal flow across audio, video, lighting, and networking, and the ability to represent WAVE with professionalism on job sites and with clients.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in AVL integration, production, or system engineering.
- Strong working knowledge of audio consoles, DSPs, networked audio, video switching and routing, cameras, projection, LED walls, lighting systems, and control networks.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, signal flow diagrams, and construction documents.
- Confident troubleshooting skills and a calm, solutions‑based approach in the field.
- Strong communication and client‑facing skills.
- Willingness to travel as required for projects.
- Assist Engineering with preparation and testing of engineered systems prior to shipment.
- Load and verify firmware, DSP files, console show files, and network configurations.
- Confirm all equipment aligns with engineering documentation and bill of materials.
- Identify potential issues early and coordinate with engineering to resolve discrepancies.
- Perform on‑site verification of installed engineering systems and subsequent connectivity to ensure conformance to engineered plans, prior to commissioning.
- Document and report issues to be addressed prior to Engineering return for on‑site commissioning activities.
- Commission AVL systems including audio tuning, networking, DSP programming, console configuration, video routing, projection systems, camera setup, lighting systems, and control processors.
- Perform system testing and validation to ensure full functionality and alignment with design intent.
- Train clients and end users on system operation.
- Document final system configuration and update engineering files as required.
- Assist on smaller projects that do not require full engineering development.
- Create basic documentation, drawings, and system layouts when needed.
- Manage project timelines, coordinate installation crews, and ensure systems meet WAVE standards.
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact for the client.
What Success Looks Like
- Systems arrive on site fully pre‑pped and ready for smooth installation.
- Field conditions are correctly identified and communicated before installation begins.
- Commissioned systems perform reliably, with clients confident in their operation.
- Smaller projects are executed efficiently and to WAVE’s quality standard.
- WAVE is represented with professionalism, expertise, and integrity in all interactions.
