Job Description

Summary
:
The Radiologic Technologist (RT) works with Medical Providers and/or Medical Assistants with the examination and treatment of Novant-GoHealth Urgent Care patients. This role provides a variety of technical procedures and applies prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis. The RT performs and analyzes patient x-rays and reports results to Medical Providers. Additional responsibilities include providing administrative support to ensure efficient operation.

The RT will support Medical Providers, Medical Assistants and patients through a variety of tasks related to patient care management, organization and communication.

Job Requirements Education
  • High School Diploma required
  • Graduate of an approved Radiologic Technologist program required
Work Experience
  • Experience in a clinical setting preferred
Required Licenses/Certifications
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required at the time of hire, obtained through the American Red Cross (ARC) or American Heart Association (AHA).
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) registration required at time of hire.
  • State licensure as a Radiologic Technologist is required at the time of hire (if applicable by state law).
Essential Functions
  • Responsible for x-ray services as needed
  • Under the direction of the clinical provider, perform x-ray services for patients by applying x-ray energy to assist in diagnosis or treatment of patients in all age groups from newborn to elderly.
  • Ensure patients are positioned correctly on or in front of equipment and protected during use.
  • May need to push patient in a wheelchair
Patient Preparation and Rooming
  • Inform technical staff of patient flow.
  • Prepare patients for examination, which includes interviewing to verify patient information, recording medical history; confirming purpose of visit.
  • Perform preliminary physical tests (blood pressure, weight, temperature, etc.) for vital signs and escalate critical cases to provider as needed.
  • Conduct point of care testing as needed (e.g., flu, strep, urinalysis, ECG, HCG); provide patient information to provider.
Administrative
  • Maintain medical records and scan charts to patient files.
  • Conduct courtesy call-backs for patient follow-up on care.
  • Follow operating instructions to perform and document daily controls and calibration of equipment; maintain QA/QC logs, troubleshoot equipment breakdowns, perform preventive maintenance, and submit repair tickets as needed.
Other Responsibilities Include
  • Medical Team Support:
    Collaborate with the ordering/treating Provider to determine which procedures or views will best assist in accurate diagnoses and treatment; support clinic operations to keep the center running smoothly.
  • Patient Care:
    Explain procedures to patients, ensure their comfort and safety, and answer questions.
  • Patient Positioning:
    Accurately position patients and equipment for optimal imaging results.
  • Image Production:
    Adjust radiographic controls to capture clear, high-quality diagnostic images.
  • Equipment Maintenance:
    Perform routine maintenance, cleaning of X-ray equipment, and manage necessary supplies.
  • Radiation Safety:
    Adhere to radiation safety protocols and ALARA principles to minimize exposure.
  • Documentation:
    Maintain accurate patient records and log completed procedures in electronic systems.
  • Image Management:
    Verify image quality and ensure images are sent to radiologists for interpretation.
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of X-ray procedures and protocols; knowledge of anatomy and physiology for radiology.
Skills
  • Positioning patients properly for X-ray procedures.
  • Identify and address equipment problems; follow infection control and radiological safety procedures.
