Job Description Summary

Under general supervision, the purpose of this job is to provide academic advisement for prospective, current, and former students within a specified undergraduate academic department or equivalent unit of a college. Employees in this role assess academic levels, attend to student inquiries, assist in resolving academic issues, and advise on program changes. They help students develop academic plans, analyze applications, transfer evaluations, and transcripts for entry and exit from the university.

They also develop and maintain files and records and perform related work as directed.

This position allows eligible veterans and their spouses to claim Veterans’ Preference pursuant to Florida Statute 295. Certain service members may be eligible for waivers for postsecondary educational requirements in employment by the state and its subdivisions. Applicants claiming preference must provide required documentation at application submission.

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's degree required.

Minimum Experience/Training:

  • Three years of experience in student services.
  • Must be a Florida resident.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides academic consulting services, including complex analysis and integration.
  • Answers inquiries and resolves problems related to curriculum and prerequisites.
  • Reviews transcripts for admission eligibility and evaluates transfer credits.
  • Reviews student files to ensure deadlines are met for graduation requirements.
  • Guides students through educational planning, maintaining plans via mainframe and web interfaces.
  • Coordinates orientation materials and conducts group orientation sessions.
  • Responds to email inquiries from students, staff, faculty, and administrators.
  • Maintains electronic calendars for scheduling appointments and meetings.
  • Provides quick advisement for students without appointments.
  • Prepares communication materials for recruitment and participates in orientation sessions.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Strong advising knowledge, computer skills, and interpersonal skills.

    Additional Information:

    This is a part-time position with a salary range of $18-$20/hr, depending on education and experience. The work schedule varies, including weekdays and weekends.
