Position: Miramichi Registered Nurse Class A (RNCA) PCN 1750346
JOB PURPOSE
Participate in the planning and giving of total nursing care to meet the individual needs of patients in the Concentrated Care Unit in accordance with the philosophy, objectives and policies of the hospital and the Nursing Department.
QUALIFICATIONS
Current registration as a practicing member of the Nurses Association of New Brunswick.Demonstrated adherence to legislation and Horizon Health Network Zone 7 Miramichi Confidentiality Policy to ensure all patient, business, financial and employee information is accessed on an as need to know basis.Successful completion of Basic Cardiac Life Support Course and recertified yearly as a condition of continuing employment.Certified in IV Therapy in compliance with hospital policies and procedures.Must be able to work rotating shifts, as assigned, including weekends and holidays throughout the year.Patient Safety is a critical aspect of quality healthcare. Successful candidates must be accountable for creating a culture of safety, working as a team, communicating effectively and responding to adverse events.Ability to attend work on a regular basis.Ability to perform the duties of the position.Good work record.Concentrated Care Unit
Current ACLS Certification or willing to acquire certification at the earliest opportunity, not to exceed six months.Minimum of 2 years experience in a critical care setting or successful completion of the NBCCNP.Coronary Care Course with rhythm interpretation or successful completion of challenge exam.Current PALS Certification desirable.Physical Assessment Course or obtain same within two (2) years.The following self-learning programs must be completed within six months:Epidural AnalgesiaTranvenous PacemakerDefibrillationCentral LinesPICC/Port CertificationKEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Patient care:
Acts as a leader, professional role model/mentor and resource for staff and the community.Develops and maintains good public relations.Assists staff with problem solving to obtain optimal outcomes. Evaluates outcomes and analyzes deviations with assistance of Nurse Manager.Identifies areas requiring improvement and provides recommendations for improving efficiencies and effectiveness.Address staff and patient safety issues daily and escalates them to NM as necessary.Assists with patient care as required.Communicates and provides overview of patient’s condition, unit’s activities and any specific problems on a daily basis as requested. Meets with NM daily and as required.Demonstrates expertise in clinical practice in Intensive Care Nursing.Participates in Programs, Quality Improvement Program and other committees as required. Attends meetings as required by NM and shares information with staff.Assists in the development of clinical policies and procedures as well as departmental safety and disaster planning.Clinical supervision of nurses and other health care workers to ensure standards of practice are maintained.Education:
Attends workshops and in-services as applicable and relays information to other staff members.Maintains own certification of clinical skills required on the unit.Maintains an awareness of recent trends and issues related to the nursing profession and intensive care nursing.Strengthens professional self-development through relevant continuing education.Human Resources:
