Adjunct Professor of Painting & Drawing
DescriptionThe Department of Art is seeking an Adjunct Professor of Painting & Drawing to teach foundational through advanced courses in painting, drawing, and related topics. This individual should be passionate about studio art and committed to cultivating students' technical skills, conceptual development, and artistic voice within a supportive, Christ-centered educational environment. The ideal candidate will inspire creativity, critical thinking, and a deeper understanding of the visual arts.
This is a part-time, semester-based position with the possibility of teaching in Fall, Spring, and Summer terms depending on department needs and enrollment.
Responsibilities- Teach courses in painting and drawing and related media, guiding students through basic to advanced skills and artistic concepts.
- Develop and deliver engaging assignments that cover essential techniques, color theory, composition, anatomy, and expressive use of materials.
- Lead critiques and discussions that foster constructive peer feedback, self-reflection, and growth in students' personal artistic practice.
- Incorporate Christian principles and ethical considerations into teaching, encouraging students to explore the relationship between faith and art.
- Engage in faculty collaborations and departmental events to support interdisciplinary projects and exhibitions.
Skills and Abilities
- Master's degree in Fine Arts, Painting, Drawing, or a related field is required.
- Previous college-level teaching experience is preferred, though significant professional practice will also be considered.
- Proficiency in traditional and contemporary painting and drawing techniques, materials, and media.
- Strong understanding of art history, theory, and criticism as it applies to painting and drawing.
- Ability to provide constructive and inspiring feedback.
- A commitment to the mission and values of a Bethel University, with openness to exploring faith in relation to art and artistic practice.
- A portfolio demonstrating professional work in painting and drawing, and if applicable, examples of past student work.
