Description

Specializes in diagnostic and therapeutic services to patients with speech, language, cognitive, swallowing impairments, and/or neurogenic communication disorders in the adult/pediatric population. Responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and monitoring high‑quality speech therapy care and services.

Essential Functions
  • Diagnoses speech, language, or swallowing disorders and evaluates patients’ conditions.
  • Listens, monitors, and observes patients’ speech patterns to develop treatment plans.
  • Establishes and administers a treatment plan of care with specific goals determined according to the patient’s capacity, tolerance, and potential.
  • Provides care in accordance with physician’s orders and established plan of care.
  • Communicates with patients, families, and members of the healthcare team to achieve rehabilitation goals.
  • Alters treatment/plan of care to reflect changes in patient status and response to treatment as necessary.
  • Documents appropriate treatment, response, and progress in the patient’s chart/medical record in a thorough and timely manner.
  • Instructs patient and family in treatment procedures to be continued at home.
  • Maintains compliance with all state, federal, and local regulatory laws, standards, and protocols.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Skills And Abilities
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Critical thinking to accurately identify speech disorders, explain treatment options, and counsel patients and families.
  • Time‑management skills to effectively meet patients’ needs, conduct research, and handle administrative tasks.
  • Enthusiasm to motivate patients during challenging treatments and recovery periods.
  • Compassion to care for patients in a kind and thoughtful manner.
  • Willingness to make sound and accurate judgments and include appropriate people in the decision‑making process.
  • Basic knowledge of SBO clinical operations and procedures.
  • Effective organizational and time‑management skills.
  • Problem‑solving ability in a timely manner; uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics.
  • Ability to maintain proper levels of confidentiality.
  • Ability to work closely and professionally with others.
Physical/Mental Demands
  • Standing, sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying (up to 20 lbs).
  • Able to reach using arms and hands.
  • Occasional reaching over shoulders.
  • Repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding and use of the mouse.
  • Must be able to work and mobilize to all SBO locations.
Environmental/Working Conditions
  • Able to work in an exposed environment to communicable diseases and other conditions common to a clinic setting.
  • Standing, sitting for up to 8 or more hours a day while doing computer input and responding to phone questions.
  • Work requiring moderate speed and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Manual dexterity using a computer keyboard and calculator.
  • Occasional evening or weekend work.
Standard Qualifications Education: Master’s Degree in Speech‑Language Pathology. Speech‑Language Pathology license in the State of Indiana is required. Previous acute care, in‑patient rehab and out‑patient treatment are beneficial.
Experience: Previous acute care, in‑patient rehab, and out‑patient treatment are beneficial, but new graduates may be considered.
