Company Description Mission is located on the unceded, ancestral, and shared territory of the Stó:lō Peoples, specifically on Leq’á:mel, Semá:th, Máthexwi, Kwantlen, Sq’éwlets, and Katzie traditional territories in the lower mainland of BC. Nestled on the southern coastal mountain slopes overlooking the lush Fraser River Valley, Mission is a rapidly growing and dynamic community of approximately 41,500 residents, 20 kilometers north of the US border and 70 kilometers east of Vancouver.

Although Mission is part of a broader metropolitan area, it still maintains its distinct and welcoming small-town flavor.

Job Description

Are you a part-time or full-time student who is interested in protecting the environment? Are you looking to gain experience in your chosen field of study? This may be your opportunity! The City of Mission is looking for two energetic and motivated students for a four to five-month assignment.

You will perform a variety of tasks related to organizing and promoting environmental initiatives-based programming with a focus on water conservation, waste diversion, and wildlife awareness. You will support the curbside recycling visual audit program by working as a team with other summer staff conducting audits of curbside recycling bins, collecting/analyzing data and preparing a program report.

In this role, you will also perform customer service and outreach regarding environmental initiatives pertaining to climate action and water conservation. Some of the specific duties include: promoting and providing information on the City’s Environmental Charter, water conservation, and recycling, by attending and representing the City at public events; conducting sprinkler patrols; preparing and maintaining reports, records and correspondence; utilizing GIS data collection programs on tablets to collect data in the field and providing general support to the Environmental Services Division and the Engineering & Public Works Department.

Responsibilities
  • Promote and provide information on the City’s Environmental Charter, water conservation, and recycling by attending and representing the City at public events.
  • Conduct sprinkler patrols.
  • Prepare and maintain reports, records and correspondence.
  • Utilize GIS data collection programs on tablets to collect data in the field.
  • Support the Environmental Services Division and the Engineering & Public Works Department.
Qualifications
  • Two to three years of academic knowledge of environmental studies and plans to return to school next academic year.
  • Ability to compile and record data and research and analyze factors relative to assigned projects to prepare non-complex research reports.
  • Excellent customer relations, strong verbal and written communication, and ability to deliver presentations to public groups.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & Outlook).
  • Valid Class 5 BC driver’s license.
  • Able to walk long distances outdoors in all weather conditions.
Additional Information
  • Opportunity commence at beginning of May until end of September 2026; part-time hours in September if required.
  • Hourly rate: $23.42 per hour plus 12.4% in lieu of vacation, statutory holidays, other paid leaves, fringe benefits and premiums.

    up to seven hours per day, five days per week with some early morning, evening and weekend shifts.
