The Older Adult (OA) Community Mental Health Program provides mental health consultation, assessment, psychiatric treatment and support to people 65 years and older who are experiencing late life onset of mental health symptoms. Some symptoms may include memory decline, confusion, depressed mood, anxiety, psychosis or other mental health symptoms that affect the person’s ability to cope with daily living activities.
The Occupational Therapist (OT) works alongside these older adult clients to maintain/improve on their independent living skills, engage in their community, foster strength and resiliency, and maintain a sense of hope in their recovery journey.
The OT role would include assessment of the client's functional status and recommendations of appropriate resources and supports to facilitate progress toward their recovery goals, including those which may be relevant to client mobility needs (e.g. Home Health).

Detailed Overview
Abiding by Fraser Health Policies and Procedures impacting rehabilitation and recovery services, and as a member of the interdisciplinary team, provides direct and indirect specialized occupational therapy services to clients of their area of practice using recognized occupational therapy tools and techniques. Services include client assessment, planning, group and individual interventions, and transition planning; consultation with and education for other professionals, contracted agencies and natural supports;
and support services for clients and natural supports. The Occupational Therapist engages with individual clients and support systems as full collaborators in service planning, delivery, and evaluation; develops partnerships with community agencies to encourage client participation; focuses on occupational performance (person-occupation-environment) from a psychosocial rehabilitation (PSR) perspective for Mental Health & Substance Use program clients; provides input into the evaluation of process and outcomes to ensure quality of services;
participates in joint planning with team members for overall service delivery to clients, and works collaboratively with MHSU staff, agencies, and community service providers. This position may be required to work in different settings such as at more than one location within an assigned geographical area, or within a virtual/remote service delivery environment.
