Facilities Operations Technician (2026-25)

Rate of Pay: $35.84 per hour (plus a 6% afternoon shift premium)

The City of Mission is seeking a Facilities Operations Technician to join our Facilities team. This position performs a variety of skilled maintenance and operational tasks at facilities operated by the Parks, Recreation & Culture department, including the ice arena, pool, and related public service, administrative, and multi‑purpose areas.

• Operate, maintain, and repair ice‑making, resurfacing, and refrigeration equipment as well as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and filtration systems.
• Monitor and record the operation of the arena refrigeration plant and follow all emergency procedures.
• Perform building repairs, clean and disinfect public areas, and set up rooms for meetings and rentals.
• Maintain facility security, respond to alarms and emergencies, and complete grounds maintenance including snow and ice removal.
• Assist facility users and community groups, and provide excellent customer service to staff, external agencies, user groups, and the public.
• Participate in the training and assessment of new staff and contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
• Maintain records, reports, and documentation related to facility operations.

The preferred candidate will have:

• Grade 12 graduation or equivalent.
• Supplemented by a recognized Building Service Worker course, Power Engineer course, and Pool Operator certification.
• A minimum of two (2) years of experience in ice making and facility operations and maintenance.

Required certifications include:

• Refrigeration Operator Certification (or acceptable equivalent Power Engineer Certification).
• Building Service Worker Certificate.
• Pool Operator Level 1 and 2 Certificates.
• Basic First Aid.
• Valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence.

• Hours of work:
  Wednesday to Saturday, 3:30pm to 1:00am (4-day work week).
• Competitive compensation: current rate is $35.84 per hour plus a 6% afternoon shift premium; proposed increase to $38.42 per hour under review.
