The City of Mission seeks a Facilities Operations Technician to perform a variety of skilled maintenance and operational tasks at facilities operated by the Parks, Recreation & Culture department, including the ice arena and pool, and related public service, administrative, and multi‑purpose areas. Duties vary according to seasonal demands and facility operations and include ice installation and maintenance, pool maintenance and operation, janitorial and custodial services, and building and equipment maintenance.

The successful candidate will operate, maintain, and repair ice‑making, resurfacing and refrigeration equipment, HVAC, electrical, plumbing and filtration systems, while monitoring and recording the operation of the arena refrigeration plant and being fully conversant with all emergency procedures. Responsibilities also include performing building repairs, cleaning and disinfecting public areas, setting up rooms for meetings and rentals, maintaining facility security, responding to alarms and emergencies, completing grounds maintenance including snow and ice removal, assisting facility users and community groups, participating in the training and assessment of new staff, contributing to the development and implementation of policies and procedures, maintaining records and reports, and providing excellent customer service to staff, external agencies, user groups, and the public.

• Operate, maintain and repair ice‑making, resurfacing, and refrigeration equipment, HVAC, electrical, plumbing and filtration systems.
• Maintain the arena refrigeration plant, monitor and record operations.
• Perform building repairs, cleaning and disinfecting public areas.
• Set up rooms for meetings and rentals.
• Maintain facility security, respond to alarms and emergencies.
• Complete grounds maintenance, including snow and ice removal.
• Assist facility users and community groups.
• Participate in training and assessment of new staff.

• Provide excellent customer service to staff, external agencies, user groups, and the public.

• Grade 12 graduation or equivalent.
• Recognized Building Service Worker course, Power Engineer course, and Pool Operator certification.
• Minimum two years of experience in ice making and facility operations and maintenance.
• Certifications:
  
  Refrigeration Operator Certification (or equivalent Power Engineer Certification), Building Service Worker Certificate, Pool Operator Level 1 and 2 Certificates, Basic First Aid.
• Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence.

Hours:

Saturday to Tuesday, 3:30 pm to 1 am (4‑day work week). Compensation: $35.84 per hour plus a 6% afternoon shift premium. Proposed increase to $38.42 per hour is under review. A comprehensive benefits package is provided upon completion of the probationary period.
