Job Summary
We are hiring a Part Time RN/RPN Clinical Mentor to join our team in Mission, B.C. The RN Clinical Mentor – Long Term Care functions as an experienced clinical mentor, resource, and champion in the delivery of excellent resident‑centred care. In collaboration with Nurse Educators and interprofessional team leaders, the Clinical Mentor provides rapid, elbow‑to‑elbow clinical mentorship and practice support to nursing staff and other care team members within Long Term Care settings.
This role provides leadership in advancing clinical practice, supporting staff skill development, and strengthening quality and safety through hands‑on mentorship, role modeling, and clinical guidance at the point of care.
- Serve as a clinical mentor, advisor, and resource to nursing staff, supporting best practices in Long Term Care nursing.
- Provide real‑time, elbow‑to‑elbow clinical mentorship and practice support in partnership with Nurse Educators.
- Offer formal and informal clinical instruction to support staff training, onboarding, and professional growth.
- Take on a leadership role in mentoring staff to enhance clinical skills, judgement, and confidence.
- Support and promote clinical practice initiatives aligned with program standards and organizational priorities.
- Collaborate with interprofessional team leaders to identify and prioritise individual and team learning needs.
- Assess learning needs through observation, dialogue with staff, competency assessments, practice changes, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Determine appropriate learning resources and opportunities and deliver targeted mentorship support.
- Facilitate staff development by role‑modeling best practice nursing skills and professional competencies.
- Support clinical decision‑making by answering questions related to resident care and assisting with problem‑solving.
- Observe staff providing resident care and intervene as needed to demonstrate appropriate, evidence‑based care delivery.
- Provide constructive feedback to ensure care aligns with program standards, standards of practice, and clinical practice guidelines.
- Support nurses in applying nursing processes and professional practice standards through on‑the‑job learning experiences.
- Observe and evaluate clinical practice to identify education, training, and development opportunities.
- Current practising registration as a Registered Nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Minimum of three (3) years of recent Acute Care, Community Health, or Long Term Care nursing experience relevant to the Long Term Care clinical area.
- Demonstrated experience mentoring nursing staff.
- Completion of leadership training or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- A valid BC Driver’s License and access to a personal vehicle may be required.
- Demonstrated ability to provide clinical mentorship and clinical practice support.
- Demonstrated knowledge of nursing theory and practice within a client/family‑centred model of care.
- Demonstrated ability to optimise scope of practice for designated patient population.
- Demonstrated ability to provide consultation, direction and leadership.
- Demonstrated ability to teach, demonstrate, facilitate, mentor and coach.
- Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning principles.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
- Knowledge of relevant clinical practice standards/guidelines and care pathways.
- Knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client/patient care.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, organise and prioritise work.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally on a one‑to‑one basis and/or group setting.
