Family Service Social Worker‑F/T (Global) – 1874

Full‑time delegated practice mission, BC, CA. Base office:
Mission. This position supports Indigenous children, youth, and families in Stó:lō Territory within the Fraser Valley.

Position Summary

Reporting to a Delegated Team Leader, social workers provide culturally appropriate, community‑based services in accordance with the BC Child, Family and Community Services Act and the Aboriginal Operational and Practice Standards and Indicators (AOPSI). The Social Worker is the first point of contact for child protection reports and works in partnership with families, community members, Band Designates, Elders, and other supports in all case planning and service delivery decisions.

Services include Family Development Response, Protective and Voluntary Family Service, and Guardianship.

Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Complete Structured Decision Making (SDM) tools – family strengths and needs assessment, family plan, and vulnerability or reunification assessment – within required time frames.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of family situations and histories; identify situations or caregiver behaviours requiring change and communicate them to the Designated Representative and family.
  • Arrange and facilitate Family Case Planning Conferences or Family Group Conferences to establish and monitor the family plan.
  • Develop comprehensive, holistic and culturally appropriate family plans and, in conjunction with the Designated Representative, monitor, evaluate, and revise plans to reduce risks.
  • Make referrals and collaborate with other service providers to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and cultural needs of the child.
  • Ensure service expectations align with the child’s age, development level, and available resources, and seek guidance from the Team Lead as needed.
  • Provide and receive ongoing feedback to and from families and professionals, participating in quality assurance processes.
  • Carry out all steps outlined in the Child Protection Response Policy (Chapter 3) when a child protection concern is raised within the portfolio.
Evaluation

Monitor and evaluate family plans; participate in tracking sessions with the Team Lead; receive feedback from the agency’s quality assurance process; complete all steps in family development response or investigations as required.

Education, Experience & Knowledge Required
  • Bachelor of Social Work degree or a Social Sciences degree.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in the Human Services field.
  • Delegated status in British Columbia or willingness to attend delegation.
  • Knowledge of child protection policies, B.C. Child, Family and Community Services Act, and AOPSI Manual.
  • Familiarity with B.C. Benefits Act, B.C. Adoptions Act, B.C. Family Relations Act, Young Offenders Act, and other relevant legislation.
  • Understanding of Good Recording Guide standards.
  • Knowledge and appreciation of Indigenous culture and its impact on individual and community development.
  • Awareness of cross‑cultural issues affecting children in care, foster parents, biological parents, and communities of origin.
  • Practical knowledge of federal, provincial, and Indigenous organizations providing health, counseling, and child and family services.
  • Strong grasp of agency policies and procedure manuals.
  • Computer literacy in databases, Microsoft Word, Excel, and other software.
  • Valid BC Driver’s Class 5 license (no restrictions) and reliable vehicle with insurance.
  • Criminal records check required.
Other Requirements

Union membership mandatory. Position requires confidentiality compliance with the Agency’s Human Resources Policy Manual, AOPSI, and the B.C. Child, Family and Community Services Act.
