Mission is located on the unceded, ancestral, and shared territory of the Stó:lō Peoples, specifically on Leq’á:mel, Semá:th, Máthexwi, Kwantlen, Sq’éwlets, and Katzie traditional territories in the lower mainland of BC. Nestled on the southern coastal mountain slopes overlooking the lush Fraser River Valley, Mission is a rapidly growing and dynamic community of approximately 41,500 residents, 20 kilometers north of the US border and 70 kilometers east of Vancouver.
Although Mission is part of a broader metropolitan area, it still maintains its distinct and welcoming small-town flavor.
The Engineering & Public Works Department is hiring a full-time Labourer 2 / Truck Driver 3 to join our team of hardworking, outdoor professionals. This position offers year-round variety and stability, working as a Labourer 2 on a day shift from April to November and as a Truck Driver 3 on a night shift from November to April.
Responsibilities – April to November (Day Shift)
- Perform a wide range of outdoor maintenance and construction tasks, including asphalt, sidewalk, and boulevard repairs; grading and back filling; form building and concrete finishing; brushing; garbage collection; sediment and pond cleaning; sign maintenance; pressure washing; snow removal; and traffic flagging.
Responsibilities – November to April (Night Shift)
- Operate large trucks to transport materials such as dirt, sand, gravel, and asphalt; plow and sand roads; and assist with construction and maintenance activities.
- Duties include conducting vehicle inspections, performing minor maintenance, and helping with loading and unloading.
- Experience in public works or construction and knowledge of safe truck operation, accident prevention, and material handling.
- A solid understanding of occupational health and safety practices.
- Strong communication skills, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- High school diploma or equivalent, Class 3 Driver’s License with Air Endorsement (unrestricted required), Level 1 First Aid, and Traffic Control certification.
- Additional courses such as Introduction to Public Works would be an asset.
The 2025 hourly rates for this position are $34.31 per hour in Labourer 2, and $35.84 per hour for the Truck Driver 3 role, plus a comprehensive benefits package upon successful completion of the probationary period including the Municipal Pension Plan. November through April the shift will be nights, Thursday to Sunday, 10:30 PM to 8:00 AM; and April to November will switch to a day shift, Tuesday to Friday, 7:30 AM – 5:00 PM.
We offer a four-day work week with nine-hour shifts (72 hours bi-weekly).
